Distraction
I am such a slacker child. Not only am I horrible at keeping up on my postings, but I should also really be doing homework right now and I'm blogging and watching the first Harry Potter instead. Slacker.
I'm watching the wand part right now... you know, the part where Harry gets his wand but has to go through trying several and wreaking all sorts of havoc... I love this movie. There's something that captures the imagination when magic is involved. At least for me, anyway. I guess it's that real life can be so boring or hard sometimes, and to imagine that there is something mystical and wonderful like magic - something that can give power to potentially powerless people - is nice.
I've just recently taken up reading-things-not-for-school again. Just in this week, in fact. I went to the HBLL (BYU's library) and picked out a couple of novels. When I first went in I wasn't sure what I wanted to read, but then I ran into an author on the shelves whose work I have previously enjoyed. I picked a couple of her books and I have read them both in the past couple of days. And it's been wonderful. The author is Diana Wynne Jones, a British woman of Welsh descent who has been writing books for decades. I was first introduced to her through the movie Howl's Moving Castle, an anime film by Miyazake which was based on one of her novels. I then read the sequel, Castle in the Air, and I was hooked. Well, I was actually hooked after the first few chapters of the first book, but it was for definite sure with the second.
She is technically a writer of children's books, but I think they're good for any age. She is like Agatha Christie in that you can never really figure out where she's going or how to fix the puzzle in her story until the very end. She writes stories that mix the real world and magic in such a wonderfully believable, and almost practical way. She's witty and funny. She's pretty straight forward and in some cases blunt. In short, she's delightful.
Oh, as an update on my health (for anyone that's interested) I'm doing much, much better. It got pretty bad in there for a bit - I couldn't get my eyes to focus for about three weeks - until I realized the neurologist had me taking too much of the medication. I reduced my dose and have been fine ever since. In fact, I haven't had problems with my head much at all! My problems now stem from my game of catch-up with all of my classes. Particularly stressful is the my senior thesis for my Senior Seminar class... It's just not working right now, but I know it will come. So mostly I'm just tired and stressed and feeling overloaded - normal university life, right? :)
I'm getting more and more excited to graduate. I ordered my cap, gown, tassel, and stole online just last week. Things are getting more and more real. I've also got everything all set with my housing situation. I'm goot to be gone at the end of April. And time is flying by! How in the world is it already March??? I just don't know.
The weather here has been so lovely. Warm and pleasant. But in the last few days it's turned windy and gloomy and it even snowed for the past couple of days. I'm thinking, though, that it's a good thing that March is coming in like a lion, right? We'll get the lamb in the end.
Okay, so now that I've been reduced to discussing pleasantries like the weather and such, I think it's about time to put this particular blog to rest. Until next time!
